New Zealand Music Month: Viking Weed

New Zealand Bands May 18, 2015

**It’s New Zealand Music Month this May. **New Zealand’s **annual celebration of homegrown music. Generally, that involves a lot of mainstream media highlighting a lot of mainstream acts. So I’m here to try and redress the balance a bit.  **I’ll be posting a link to some rowdy New Zealand music for you to check out every day over the next month. Some bands will no doubt be familiar; others I hope will be fresh to your ears.

Viking Weed

Apologies, but it’s going to be rapid-fire New Zealand Music Month posts for the next few days.  That’s no reflection on the bands being featured, they’re all ripping and roaring crews well worth highlighting, but I’m just going to be neck deep in work over the next week or so.

Still, I thought I’d take a break from work this Sunday evening to make sure I posted about Endless Burnout, the debut from Viking Weed, Hamilton’s stoner punk trio. *Endless Burnout *is an album that deals in righteous blasts of red-raw rock ’n’ roll. It’s fuzzed-out. Heavy on the vibes. Filthy in tone and temper. And if unrefined and punk-injected stoner metal tweaks your giblets, then *Endless Burnout *is well worth checking out, bro.

Endless Burnout was released on cassette by Press Gang Records yesterday. And if you’re picking up a copy, make sure to check out the other releases on the label’s Bandcamp page while you’re there. There are a couple of stellar Press Gang Records releases I’d recommend straight away: *Degeneration, *the impressive debut from Society, and *Think Locally, Die Globally, *the promising first demo from sludge trio Over-Population. Also, if poppier punk rock appeals, there are a couple of great releases from Phone Sex Robots and Odd Bodz available on Press Gang Records’ Bandcamp page too.

All right. I have to get back to work. And you have to go check out Viking Weed’s stonkin’ debut. Dig in.
