New Zealand Music Month: Verberis
**It’s New Zealand Music Month this May. **New Zealand’s **annual celebration of homegrown music. Generally, that involves a lot of mainstream media highlighting a lot of mainstream acts. So I’m here to try and redress the balance a bit. **I’ll be posting a link to some rowdy New Zealand music for you to check out every day over the next month. Some bands will no doubt be familiar; others I hope will be fresh to your ears.
Verberis
Label Iron Bonehead released blackened death metal band Verberis’ first demo, Vastitas, in early 2014. To quote the label at the time, “the current state of New Zealand’s Verberis is as obscure and uncertain as both its origins and future”. And that’s about the truth of it. Essentially, everything about Verberis was (and is) shrouded in mystery. The band just appeared out of the blue, and very few folks in the New Zealand metal community had any idea who was behind the project. Still, band member mysteries seem rather fitting considering Vastitas was a four-song demo filled with murky, enigmatic, and ice-cold death metal. Fans of New Zealand bands like Heresiarch, Vesicant, and Witchrist would find a lot to enjoy here.
