New Zealand Music Month: Lord of Solitude

Apologies for not being around much since my Favourite Albums of 2014 splurge a few months back. I really wish I had an exciting excuse for my absence as well. But, sadly, it’s simply that my long-suffering Mac decided it was time to lay down and die earlier in the year.

I’m not in any position to be buying another computer soon either. So that essentially means my writing career is dead in the water. Still, such is life, and rather than mope about that, I thought I’d take the opportunity to keep on highlighting some great New Zealand music whenever I can wrangle time on a computer somewhere.

Today’s a good day to start that wrangling too. Because May 1st marks the beginning of New Zealand Music Month. If you’re reading this from far away, and you’re wondering exactly what New Zealand Music Month entails, it’s exactly as it sounds. It’s a month where homegrown music is wholeheartedly celebrated in New Zealand with a lot more local shows and stacks of media coverage.

Generally, all that coverage favours mainstream bands. And you’ll find New Zealand musicians and music fans who don’t think NZ Music Month amounts to much at all. I’m not one of those people. I think, if I have the chance to shout about the New Zealand bands I like, then I’ll take every opportunity I get to do just that. So, in that spirit, I thought I’d do my bit for New Zealand Music Month by doing a quick post every day during May to shine the spotlight on some  great metal, punk, or hard-edged experimental music from round my neck of the woods.
