New Zealand Music Month: Heresiarch and Vesicant

It’s New Zealand Music Month this May. New Zealand’s annual celebration of homegrown music. Generally, that involves a lot of mainstream media highlighting a lot of mainstream acts. So I’m here to try and redress the balance a bit. I’ll be posting a link to some rowdy New Zealand music for you to check out every day over the next month. Some bands will no doubt be familiar; others I hope will be fresh to your ears.
Heresiarch
Heresiarch’s first EP, 2011’s Hammer of Intransigence, found instant underground success. The band returned in 2014 with their 7” Wælwulf EP, and while it only contained only three songs, that was more than enough to slay contenders with entire albums of blackened death metal at their disposal. Sure, a few more tracks would have been very nice. But then, Heresiarch don’t ever play nice. And nor should they. Because it’s that unrepentant side of the band that taps right into death metal’s evilest and stubbornest vein.
